Baroque Hostel Budapest

The hostel had a fairytale-like atmosphere, and we absolutely loved the interior. There’s a kitchen and a gaming area, and the restrooms and showers were consistently clean. The staff were especially kind, responsive, and attentive to what guests needed. We’d love to come back and highly recommend it.

The room smelled awful, and my experience with the night receptionist was upsetting. Mr Mikael, the last Hungarian receptionist, asked whether I’d used the shower after seeing water on the floor. The shower handle was broken, and I didn’t like being questioned that way. At 11:45 he told me to leave immediately, even though I explained that the other receptionist, who was the only one there earlier, had allowed me to check out at 12 p.m. He was harsh. He said I should have checked with the manager, who wasn’t there, instead of believing the other receptionist. Later, after I asked his name, he said he hadn’t meant to be harsh, but he had been. Mr Sandip had first told me to check out exactly on time, then accepted a later time and agreed to noon. The first receptionist was very nice, spoke English very well, and was a convenient Hungarian blond male receptionist working nights.

I paid 28 874,52 Hungarian Forint for six nights in April 2023, but left after only two. While I was asleep, 20 000 forints were taken from my bag. The staff dismissed what had happened and treated me with great disrespect. When I asked for the hallway camera recording from that night to see who had taken the money, they verbally attacked me. I was shocked to hear them talk about spirituality while I had to fight just to get access to the footage. I believed they knew the person who stole from me. I left without a refund. This was disgraceful, and I’ll never return.

There was plenty of space to sit outside the room, and I could leave my luggage after checkout. The location is amazing and the staff were friendly and nice. The hostel itself is simple, but the beds were comfortable, the linen clean, and the heating worked well, so the room stayed warm. They also gave me a nice towel for free at check-in.
