Brody House

I was here for a wedding, so I can’t comment on the rooms, but the event was great. Service ran smoothly and was good. The food was good quality, with nicely judged seasoning. It wasn’t anything exceptional, though seasoning is often the weak spot at restaurants.

I’m always in awe when I step into my room. There’s artwork everywhere, and the whole place feels spacious and so unique. Even the toilet and shower are great. I love it here and highly recommend it for a visit.

We spent most of our time on the Pest side, where Bródy House is, and found plenty to keep us busy. The area feels very local, a little seedy but not dangerous. Nearer the river it gets more touristy and polished. There are lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance, and local transport can take you wherever you want to go. We crossed to Buda once for the castle and Matthias Church, and the hike was well worth it. Our room was huge, with a walk-in closet and a large en-suite bathroom. The furnishings mix antiques with repurposed pieces, and the bed was very firm, so a mattress topper might be worth considering. Staff presence is fairly hands-off. Check-in was efficient but not especially welcoming, while the person at checkout was more empathetic and gladly answered our airport travel questions. The cafe at Bródy House seems popular with locals. We ate there once and thought the food was tasty and good value. We had a lovely stay and are already recommending Bródy House to friends. We hope to come back.

The main drawback is the stairs. The building is historic and old, so there’s no room for a lift. Beyond that, the staff were friendly and helpful, even arranging luggage storage on our last day while we explored Budapest. Our room also had access to a shared kitchen for making meals if we wanted a night in. The courtyard cafe becomes a bar in the evening, and there’s an art gallery in the basement. The hotel is stylish, with a different art theme in each room.
