Classic Hotel

We only stayed because we had no other choice, but this place was a nightmare. The rooms smelled of something like caterpillar or rotting organic matter, and the bathroom smell was even worse. There was a drain in the middle of the bathroom with water and hair in it. The smell was so bad we had to stop breathing. The sheets were incredibly dirty, so we used our clothes as pillowcases. We were afraid there might be bed bugs, though we were also afraid to check. The doors were old and decaying, and we put chairs in front of ours in case someone tried to get in. That fear didn’t seem unfounded. One day, while my friend and I were watching videos, the cleaning ladies opened our door without knocking or asking and tried to come in. We got to the door before they could enter fully because of the chairs. Afterward they laughed in our faces, and with the paper-thin walls we could still hear them laughing and talking in Hungarian. They came back the next day. They didn’t change the sheets or clean anything, and didn’t even leave toilet paper, just a napkin. They only rearranged the bedding, folding one sheet and leaving it at the end of the bed, with the rest still dirty. It felt like they’d invited themselves in to look at our room and belongings. The location description says it’s close to the city center by bus, and that’s true, but first you have to walk ten minutes through a hilly, empty area to reach the bus. Reception was odd and seemed uninterested. They also required us to leave our room keys with them whenever we went out, something I’d never seen or heard of before. The doors looked so worn out that they could open them anyway. The hotel hasn’t been renovated in years. Please don’t go there. The whole stay left us traumatized.

The room had no soundproofing, so every conversation, toilet flush, and shower from neighboring rooms came through. The air conditioning didn’t work, and white stains covered the carpet. Worst of all, the bathroom smelled of sewage so badly that you had to hold your breath to go inside. It really was as bad as it sounds. Don’t stay here.

Our room was clean and generally fine, so I disagree with the other reviewers who said it was dirty. Check-in went smoothly, and everything was explained clearly. We stayed in September 2025. The cook at breakfast was very friendly, and the food was okay. The hotel sells beer and snacks, though our mini-fridge was empty. The lobby didn’t feel like somewhere to sit down and have a drink. That’s my one suggestion for improvement. The man working the night desk didn’t seem especially interested in customer service, but that was okay.

The receptionist was helpful, but the room was very dirty. The sheets hadn’t been changed and the toilet wasn’t cleaned. We were exhausted and it’s near the highway, so we stayed one night. We definitely won’t return.
