Dice Apartments

The location was really handy, with pretty much everything close by, and the apartment had the kitchen basics, a mini fridge, electric stove and microwave. We stayed two nights in room 7, a four-person unit in the basement. It was comfortable enough for us, especially since we were out most of the time, and they offered to move us on the second day. I’d already left by the time I saw the message, though, so we stayed put. The basement setup wasn’t for me. The windows were tiny, it felt a bit claustrophobic, and there was damp on some walls from a leak that left a nasty smell. The shower had no enclosure, so water got all over the bathroom, which took ages to dry without proper ventilation. There was one fan; it wasn’t terribly hot, but I’d have preferred two to keep the room cooler. I’d happily stay again in an upstairs room, but not in the basement. There’s no parking at the building and the street gets busy. The Whale (balna) is about a 15-minute walk away and parking there costs around 2500 forints a day.

The rooms were tidy and the location was good. One thing we weren’t told: this place uses a boiler, so after a break you may need to run a lot of cold water before the hot water comes through. At first we thought our room had a fault. Staff said it was very unusual and told us several times that maintenance would arrive in 15 minutes. We waited 1,5h, but nobody showed up, and in the end we figured it out ourselves.

There are seven apartments altogether, four partly below ground and three on the first floor. The design could use some work, but it’s still a really enjoyable place, with cozy apartments and an awesome location.

My shower drain was blocked, so every shower left the bathroom flooded. I found out in the evening, and nothing was done about it. Also, the receptionists aren’t always there, so checking in means calling them on your own phone, which can cost more if you’re roaming.
