Holiday Beach Budapest Wellness & Conference Hotel

I booked for the sauna and wellness area, but it was closed a few years ago because of gas prices. There still haven't been any updates, and the information online contradicts itself. Don't expect a sauna when you book, and they don't reply to online questions. I feel bad for people who recently booked just for the wellness facilities.

Dirty linen made a very bad first impression, and the rooms are very small. The hotel's website advertises a pool, but guests can't use it when there's a private party. We chose this place specifically for the pool and spa center. Maybe a 3.4 average Google rating is too high.

The view over the Duna river is fantastic. That was the best thing about the stay. The men at reception and in the restaurant were friendly, but the cleaning staff walked in while I was trying to wash. They said they thought the room was empty and left, without apologizing. I found that rude. We only stayed one night because our camper broke down, so this was an emergency stop. The rooms are outdated and very small. We had a so-called family room with three beds, though it was officially for two people. The beds were arranged so they blocked the wall outlets by the headboard, and a third full-size bed made an already cramped room impossible to move around in. This isn't four-star luxury. The bathroom tap and funnel leaked badly, and water would have spread across the floor if we hadn't covered it. We used our already not very clean towels, and the sheets had stains I couldn't identify. The TV mostly had German and Austrian channels, with just some Hungarian ones. I speak German, but the rest of my family couldn't watch most of them. For a four-star price, I expected a better mix of international channels. The pools were closed for the season, which I can understand in November. The gym was open and my little boy enjoyed it, but it wasn't clean. We were only there one night, so I didn't try the sauna. Given the general lack of cleanliness, I wasn't sure I should have. Also, it can only be used in swimming clothes, which I find disgusting. A sauna should be used naked. We ate dinner at an outside restaurant, so I can't comment on the food here. Breakfast was edible, but not very good and certainly not four-star quality. Going elsewhere for dinner seemed like the right call. We live in Hungary and know Budapest, so we know our way around. For tourists, though, this location is terrible. The view is great and it's quiet, with no traffic noise or exhaust smell, but there's nothing worth visiting within walking distance. There are hardly any pavements, which makes walking feel dangerous. Biking in Budapest is a suicide attempt, so I really wouldn't advise anyone to cycle around. My ratings reflect that: one star for the tiny, not really three-person room, dirty sheets, leaking sink, poor TV, and general lack of cleanliness. Two stars for service. The men were friendly but not very helpful when I reported the leak, and although they said they'd send a repair person, other comments make me doubt anything will happen. The cleaning staff were rude. Three stars for the location, for the great view and quiet, despite there being nothing to enjoy nearby. This worked for our one-night emergency, but I wouldn't recommend the hotel for a holiday or a longer stay.

The staff handled our problems really poorly. There was a bad smell in the rooms, and the water in the toilet, sink, and shower wasn't working properly. My room had no potable water, so I went to reception to ask for some. It was 2 am, and I asked if I could pay for a bottle from the fridge by reception. The staff member said the fridge was closed and told me to drink tap water. When I explained the water problem, he went to the back, poured himself a glass of tap water, and drank it in front of me to prove his point. I asked whether anyone else had complained, and he said no. When I told him I'd been there while someone else made a complaint, he showed me the door and said it was late.
