Hotel Memories Budapest

The location is hard to fault. The hotel is beside the Synagogue, 450m from the Astoria (M2) metro, and close to Budapest Keleti station and the city center. It's a great base for walking to the sights, and I'd give the location 10/10. But after five days, the hotel felt more like a 3-star place than a 4-star one, and I would probably stay somewhere else on my next Budapest trip. We appreciated the complimentary drinks offered daily from 13:00-19:00. We also got a 20% restaurant coupon, but even with that discount, prices plus a 12% service charge were higher than at many excellent local places nearby. Our room was small, with thin walls that let us hear the neighbors. The Wi-Fi was very slow or didn't work, and the safe was broken when we arrived with its batteries removed. The TV wasn't smart and had only four English news channels, though there was a smart TV in the basement. The wellness facilities didn't impress us either. The treadmill could only be used for one hour, followed by a two-hour break, and other gym machines were malfunctioning. The jacuzzi is in the basement beside the kitchen, with no privacy, so we didn't use it. Breakfast is available at Levante or in the hotel basement. The basement had more variety, but neither option felt like 4-star quality. The reception atmosphere was the biggest letdown. Staff were often on their phones and rarely greeted us unless we spoke first. Since reception is a guest's first contact, that left us feeling more like an inconvenience than welcome guests.

The location is very good, right near the big synagogue, and the service was okay. The staff were good when we asked about the jacuzzi and food. But finding two cucaracha in our room was really unpleasant. They need to do something about that.

We found it easy to get around from here, with public transport close by and Budapest's main offerings nearby. The room was small, but spotless. Drinks, both hot and cold, were available free around the clock, and the service was excellent and consistently attentive. Breakfast was lovely. Thank you!

The location was excellent, the staff were nice, and the hotel was very clean for a very reasonable price. We also appreciated the welcome drink. Our deluxe queen room, though, was the smallest European room we'd stayed in for a long time, and very uncomfortable for two. We switched rooms, and the second bed was a little better, but both were quite hard. Breakfast was just average, and the roll came out incredibly hot and packed.
