The price is low, and the location is one of the best in Budapest. If you can find somewhere else for the same money, I’d pick that instead. We had a basement or ground-floor room with its own washroom, and it smelled throughout our stay. The mattress was incredibly thin and uncomfortable. The pillow and duvet were stained and in awful condition, though the covers were fresh. Common areas were poorly kept, with broken furniture around. The shower curtain was dirty, and there were hairs on the washroom floor from a previous guest, or someone else. There was no soap or towel in the washroom, which we were okay with at this price. Payment was cash only, no cards. On our last night, we turned on the lights with the windows open and about six hornets flew in. We had to shut the windows and sleep in the smelly room to avoid getting stung. I feel sorry for students who have to live there for a full course or a semester or two.

It’s cheap, and the location isn’t awful. That’s about the best I can say. It’s almost comical how little effort seems to have gone into the place. The bathroom was a joke, and the hostel was in shocking condition. One bed had an extremely thin mattress; the other might as well have had none. Anyone stuck there for term time has a rough deal. The heat was unbearable, and opening a window meant bugs could come in and have a better night than you. Bed bugs? Sorted. Mosquitoes? Everywhere.

For a cheap hostel, the location is great for walking around the city. A two-person room was okay: clean sheets and a warm shower, though the furniture wasn’t nice. The four-person room was another story. The bunk mattresses were so thin we joked that one had been sliced into four. Even with two mattresses stacked on a bed, I could feel the metal frame. I’ve never slept so badly.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the place was clean enough for its price range. It suits young people or couples who’d rather spend time out in the city than at the hostel. The kitchen and cooler are shared, but you get a private toilet. For the price, I’m giving it five stars and would happily come back.

It looks a bit like a school dorm, and my room had a shared balcony. Cleanliness, especially outside the room, was poor. Still, it wasn’t terrible for the price: the internet worked well, the location was good, and the furniture wasn’t too bad.
