The building was nice and the staff were friendly. We were in a separate apartment, but it was by far the dirtiest place we’ve ever stayed. There was dust everywhere, the bathroom was filthy, and the kitchen needed a deep clean. The bathroom sink was blocked, brown water came from the tap, and the shower was so gross I couldn’t use it. At least the bed and bedding were clean. I’m glad we only stayed one night. If it had been longer, we’d have left the next day anyway. Budapest has many beautiful places for budget travellers, and I’m sorry to say this isn’t one of them.

We spent 5 nights here in February with 4 friends. The atmosphere was incredible, and the staff were so friendly and helpful. They gave us maps, lots of tips on places to visit and good deals on food and drinks, and even sorted out our laundry. The building felt very secure, lockers were available for a small deposit, and everything was clean and tidy. Thoroughly recommended! If I’m ever back in Budapest, I’ll stay here again.

We booked a private room at Multipass hostel and got a steal of a deal. It’s close to Budapest Nyugati Station, tram lines, and within 5-10 minutes on foot of the M1 and M3 metro lines. The building is old and could use some maintenance, and with no lift, carrying luggage up the stairs can be a pain. The bathrooms are quite small. There’s no breakfast, though there is a kitchen for cooking. But the sink always had used utensils in it, which put me off using the kitchen. The private room could also use at least a mirror. The reception is positioned so you have to walk past it to get anywhere inside the hostel, including the bathroom and kitchen. That felt awkward sometimes, especially after a bath.

The hostel was nice in many ways, and almost all the staff were responsible, neat, super helpful, and friendly. I’ve been to Budapest 4 times and am going to be a student there, so I have nowhere else to live except this amazing-until-the-weekend hostel. I liked every single point about Multipass Hostel and tried to keep the peace, respecting the atmosphere and following the rules as I’ve done at hostels across Europe and Asia. That’s why the disappointment was so big. On a chilling SUNDAY NOON, a couple, actually the staff, woke me with unbelievably loud stereo sound from a film and laughter. They didn’t seem to care that guests pay and want to use the facility. I later learned only one staff member was supposed to be working. They acted however they wanted and made things awkward. You have to pass reception to reach the kitchen and dining space, and I was spoken to in a pretty offensive way, as if I were a creep who always stayed at the hostel without going out. I had a personal reason, but did I deserve that remark? Was my behaviour really unacceptable to them? I felt like I was in a young couple’s room, not a hostel workplace that they treated as too private. They said, “It is not a hotel but a hostel!” Yeah, I know... or, “You should have told us about the noise at first.” Guests’ space and the kitchen can get taken over, especially on weekends. After waiting and hesitating before cooking, I found unwashed dirty dishes, pans, and pots everywhere, and could only sigh. Maybe this rarely happens, but it was totally unexpected. I would NEVER dare come back on WEEKENDS! Sometimes smoke comes in from outdoors and the air is awful. Other staff members are SUPER HELPFUL and respect guests, ich meine alles in Ordnung wie übliche Herberge, außer Wochenenden... Traurig..

Beware, this hostel is filthy, unsafe, and very loud. I booked multiple nights but had to get out after the first one. I’ve stayed in dozens of hostels across Europe and even Africa, and Multipass Hostel is by far the WORST.
