New apartment, central Budapest

The host was helpful when we needed a late checkout, and the views over the street and across to the impressive old New York building were great. We stayed for three nights on our first Budapest trip, and it was a good choice. The Jewish Quarter is becoming a popular spot for quirky cafés and bars. Public transport also makes it easy to get to Buda and the Danube. I'd recommend staying here.

The firm bed wasn't great for my husband's back, and we couldn't find much in the way of kitchen utensils, no bread knife or chopping board that we could see. Even so, we had a pretty good five-night stay. The owner was great and really accommodating. The rooms are lovely, with high ceilings, and the air conditioning was a blessing in the summer heat. The location worked perfectly for us, within walking distance of all the food and drink options in District 7 and close to the Metro and bus routes, including the hop on hop off tour buses.

At New York Café we waited far too long for service, and the coffees arrived cold. When we asked to have them changed, they reheated them and brought them back, so we left without drinking them. They said they would make fresh coffees, but that wasn't true.

Lovely apartments, great views and excellent staff.
