Novotel Budapest Danube

Room 732 had a nice view of the Parliament building, but the carpet was stained and the bathroom fixtures were disappointing. The fold-out sofa bed should be replaced with a proper bed, and the windows need regular cleaning. There were no USB or power outlets by the bed, which seems like a serious oversight for a four-star hotel. We were there for my mother's birthday on March 2nd 2026. Our first room, on the top floor, had no view, so I politely asked reception if we could change rooms for the occasion. The response was cold: “That would be an additional 50 Euros.” I paid for the upgrade, but the service attitude was lacking. I also wasn't given a receipt when I paid or an invoice at checkout. We've stayed at other Novotel locations and had excellent experiences. This one left me feeling that readers should be cautious.

The dining area and river-facing rooms look directly across at the Hungarian Parliament, which makes the location feel special. It's also easy to explore on foot, with attractions nearby and public transport connections close at hand. Our room was comfortable and well kept, and the hotel stayed quiet and relaxing despite being so central. Breakfast had a good variety and was well organized, in a pleasant setting. A convenient, comfortable base for seeing Budapest.

The location is great, close to the metro, but breakfast was disappointing and the sauna was flooded and unusable. The scrambled eggs were dry as hell and smelled burnt. You can tell a lot about a hotel by its eggs. The dining staff were all very young and probably just need more experience.

Ms. Kovacs at reception was incredibly patient and helpful, even though I wasn't staying at the hotel. A parcel I had sent to a guest arrived late, probably because of Black Week and the holiday season, so I had to arrange for it to be returned to Germany. The hotel couldn't resend it, which I completely understand, but Ms. Kovacs still took the time to find information and handle what she could from her end. Thanks to her care, the parcel got back to me safely. World-class hospitality. I'll stay here next time I'm in Budapest.
