Unity Hostel

The location is really good, and the bathrooms were very nice. The reception staff member was amazing, so helpful and kind, and the cleaning woman was lovely too. Just keep your expectations in check. Our six-bed room was tiny and old, and I don't think the sheets were very clean. The shared area was basic and old, though it did have a kitchen and a large dining table. There's also a bar downstairs, which could bother someone trying to sleep, but it wasn't too bad. Having a bar with different kinds of music right next door was pretty convenient.

We were most disappointed by the luggage storage. When booking, we were told there'd be a free locker available after checkout. At reception, a notice said lockers cost 10€, but when we asked for one, there weren't any at all. They suggested leaving our things by the shared fridge, where anyone could get to them. We had to argue with management before they let us leave our belongings in a room for a few hours. Parking can also be difficult. The rooms looked much better online than they did in person, and the walls are thin. The building hall looked shabbier than the hostel. The one upside was the price, which was the cheapest despite the Sziget Festival being on, when everything else was booked or too expensive.

I wouldn't stay here again. The two stars are for the friendly staff and the hostel's good location. My private room was beside the stairs, between two group rooms and the bathroom, with a washing machine directly opposite the door. You could hear every footstep, plus the shower and toilet whenever someone used the bathroom. People were using the machine at 9 a.m., and guests from the group rooms kept using that bathroom until 1 a.m., so there was no sleeping in. Breakfast runs from 8 to 10 a.m., and since it's the only bathroom with a shower, people rush past the door trying to get ready. I wanted to enjoy the many bars nearby, but getting only four or five hours of sleep made that impossible.

Our room was comfortable, and the building where we stayed was quiet, with other residents living there, so it didn't feel like the usual hostel where the whole building is a bit chaotic. The hostel seems to be spread across several buildings. We checked in at a pleasant, laid-back place with a friendly atmosphere, but our room was in a completely different building, about a five-minute walk away. The receptionist was friendly and kindly walked us over. That building was fine, though not as nice as the one with reception. If I came back, I'd try to book a room in the reception building if possible.
