Imola Hotel Platán

The corner room with a private sauna on the balcony was perfect, and the spa was a highlight, with multiple saunas, baths, and steam rooms. The hotel also has private balconies, a large gym, and a tasty hot breakfast each day with plenty of vegetarian and pescatarian choices. I spent two nights here in November 2024, after coming up from Budapest for the weekend, and really enjoyed the service and amenities at Imola. It's an outstanding boutique hotel for adults only, about a 10 minute walk into town.

We had a room with access to the patio, but it felt less private because people used the small pool there. Next time I might choose a room with a balcony. I didn't try the wellness area. The hotel otherwise made a good impression, with spacious rooms and common areas, nice design, a big shower, and excellent service. I wasn't used to the air conditioning. I guess it was ceiling cooling, so selecting the coolest setting didn't make an immediate difference. It took a while, but by the end of a hot day the room had cooled down nicely.

The rooms are modern, clean, and spacious, and both dinner and breakfast were fantastic. Staff were very polite and welcoming. The spa is fairly large, with different pools and saunas, and there's also a free option to visit Eger city spa. This is one of my favorite hotels in the country, and one of Hungary's best adult-friendly hotels. Highly recommended.

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and polite staff. Most meals were delicious, though some weren't as good. Breakfast had a good selection and was refilled quickly. Beer choices at the bar were poor, while the wine and spirits selection was great. The wellness area is relatively big and has plenty of features, but it lacks a warm pool. The sauna area was crowded and uncomfortable. In cold weather, the free passage to the city's thermal bath probably won't appeal much, since it's a long walk outside. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the old city and castle. Staff were polite and pleasant, and the hotel looks modern, though parts of it need maintenance. The shower was excellent, perhaps the best I've had in a hotel, and extra pillows and blankets were provided. The bed was comfortable, but too soft for me. Overall, I had a splendid stay, and it was the best four-star hotel I've visited in recent years. The absence of children was a great change, since children aren't allowed at the hotel.
