We spent nearly three full days in the wellness area with our 3.5-year-old son and had a great time trying all the different options. While one of us was with him, the other could enjoy the thermal waters or sauna, and the spa stayed manageable even when busy. Friends with two kids each had recommended Portobello as a good spa hotel within reach of Budapest. We can see why. We were on half board, and both breakfast and dinner were really tasty for the price and setting. The service was great too. Everyone was ready to help, and they knew how to help. The rooms and restaurant look renovated, or at least are kept sparkling clean. The location is nice, including being close to Slovakia. We had dinner there on our last day. The facilities and price were great for us. We loved our stay and would come back. Highly recommended.

There are indoor and outdoor pools and spas, and the rooms are spacious, bright, and clean. It’s good value, often has specials, and worked really well for our family. We loved it, though anyone after a quiet romantic break might find it’s not their kind of place.

The saunas were high quality, and the cold plunge was excellent. We skipped the pools because they were packed with kids, and breakfast was much the same. It’s a family-focused place, so go early if you want to miss some of the noise.

On Friday, the music program was unbearably loud in our room. The staff refused to do anything about it.

The room was cozy and had a comfortable, spacious bed, new furniture, and modern plumbing. It wasn’t especially large, but the soundproofing was excellent. The hotel itself was modern and spotless, and the staff were friendly and professional. We really enjoyed both dinner and breakfast. The food was delicious and there was plenty to choose from. I’d recommend this hotel for a family holiday or a romantic getaway.
