We were there a few years back, and from what I read in the other reviews, it seems things have got worse, if that's even possible. If it's still running, try the revolving observation deck on the roof if you're after a bizarre experience.

The owner kept adding different extra charges to the booking, and the discussion about the price was unpleasant. He called me an idiot, so I cancelled the reservation.

The rooms were filthy, and it wasn't the staff's fault, they all seemed afraid of the owner. My friends and I wanted our 180 Euro back after the owner was rude to my friends and their wife. He was rude to me too and refused to refund us at first. When he saw how angry I was getting and that I was about to punch him, he took out his wallet and paid us. Outside, he made one last remark that he knew where I lived. I rushed back in, and three men stopped me. Without them, I would have knocked him down. I've never had problems before, but this owner pushed me that far. Several people can vouch for what happened. I've travelled all over the world, and this is the worst place I've ever been. It's not worth a single star. Please don't go to Hotel Balaton. If you do, it'll be the biggest mistake of your holiday. I wish you a wonderful trip otherwise.

We booked through AirBnB, but it felt like the hotel was using the service to scam people. As soon as we said at the front desk that we had an AirBnB reservation, the staff became very hostile. The owner came out and immediately said, “if you don’t like it, go to the police”. That was hardly a way to have a conversation. We tried to work things out, asking for our money back or help finding somewhere else to stay. They only got angrier and tried to push us out physically, even though we were standing there peacefully. Please don't book here, however you make the reservation. They don't deserve your money, and you can find a better place anywhere.
