Lifestyle Hotel Mátra

The setting around the hotel was my favorite part: it's in the forest, with a lovely view and a peaceful atmosphere from the large balcony. There's also a walking track around the hotel and a playground out front. The apartment was clean, neat, modern and spacious, with a large bathroom, comfortable beds, a coffee machine for making coffee and tea, and a mini fridge with drinks. We stayed as a family on half board. The food was excellent and varied, with something for everyone. Sometimes the cook came out to arrange the buffet, and the food was served extraordinarily well. The staff were very hospitable. Most didn't know English, though, and I think waiters should at least have basic English, since they're in front of the hotel representing its food, drinks and other offerings. The receptionists knew English and were all very helpful. The spa center has indoor and outdoor pools, a mini pool and lots of toys for children, which my daughter enjoyed. The outdoor pool stood out for its forest views and surroundings. There was a jacuzzi beside the pools, and even more in the spa center. My English isn't perfect, so there might be mistakes, but I wanted more people to see this review. For me, it's a topnotch hotel.

The rooms were clean and tidy, and the bed was very comfortable. Staff were professional and helpful, and the mountain air was lovely and fresh. The spa was extremely good, especially the sauna. The air conditioning wasn't working very well in any of the rooms, unfortunately. Skip the Club Sandwich, it was nothing like one and very disappointing, though at least they didn't charge for it.

Breakfast and dinner had plenty of choices, and the food was homey and tasty. The rooms are basic, with twin beds only, but they were comfortable. The bathroom was OK, though the shower was pretty battered. The location is stunning, and the wellness facilities make up for the hotel's shortcomings: two different pools, one for kids, a jacuzzi, Finnish, Bio and Infra saunas, a steam bath, a heated relaxation room with divine scents, and different shower experiences. The crushed ice was the best treat. Service is where it falls short. Very few waiters seemed to know what they were doing or had training, and most weren't paying attention or came across as plain cranky. If you take the place with a pinch of salt, you'll be grand.

The view is stunning, and the staff are nice. There are lots of pools and saunas in the really relaxing spa, and I especially liked the outdoor jacuzzi overlooking the beautiful landscape. A great place for families, or couples wanting to enjoy the “lifestyle” of Màtra.
