The food was fine and the staff were friendly. I wasn’t convinced the spread served with the toast and beef tartare was butter. It was white and didn’t taste like butter, so I left it uneaten. We were also surprised by the 10% service charge. That isn’t common in Hungary, and we hadn’t noticed it on the menu. I checked online afterward and found it on one of the menu pages, though not everyone reads every page.

There’s a private bike room, so our bikes felt safe. We really enjoyed the food and beers, and our waitress was very friendly and spoke both English and German. We’ll definitely come back.

We stopped for lunch on a Tuesday, hoping to sit on the lovely terrace, but all the tables were occupied. The staff were friendly and gave us a good estimate of about 10 minutes for a table. They kept an eye on things and showed us to it as soon as it was ready. We ordered gulyasleves (goulash soup), catfish paprikas, which was stunning, and Cordon Bleu filled with leek and local smoked cheese, with sweet potato fries. The food and drinks were very good, and portions were large enough that we skipped dessert. It was also close to Esterhazy Kastely in Fertöd, which worked well for our trip. I can absolutely recommend it.

Dinner indoors was really good, and the prices were great. If you order steak, be sure to say how you want it cooked, otherwise it’ll come well done.

The room was tidy and we had a peaceful night. Everything was all right at the guesthouse and restaurant, with good food and wine. It’s ideal for a one-night stay. This is the view from the balcony.
