Majerik Hotel

The building feels stuck in Soviet times and needs renovation throughout. Russian is heard a lot, and most of the tours listed on the information board are in Russian. Our room was quite basic and, unfortunately, not clean at all. The toilet smelled bad. As for breakfast, the ladies at the next table called it “Soviet style dining,” and I couldn’t agree more. It was very simple. Parking cost extra, and we had to pay before leaving. I don’t want to stay here again, and probably won’t return.

The hotel is right in the center of town, and the people were very nice. Some rooms are good, while others feel outdated.

The stair rail was just a thick plank with square edges, nothing I could properly grip. When I slipped a little on the unfamiliar stairs in my boots, I could only put my fingers behind it to stop myself falling forward. I broke a finger and my right hand is still in a cast; I'm still getting treatment, and not having my dominant hand makes everything a huge hassle. This happened in early December. No staff member could speak English then, and when I came back with my hand in a cast, so I still don't know whether they'll cover the medical costs. In my opinion, the place doesn't meet health and safety standards as it is. I can't recommend it in its current condition. I hope I can report later that the hotel paid the expenses from breaking a bone on its staircase.

The rooms were clean and roomy, and having parking of our own was handy. Meals were good, the usual food for a three-star hotel. Good value, with the thermal lake and bus station nearby.
