I’m posting this as a warning. We booked through booking.com, and they didn’t ask for a credit card. Since there’s only one restaurant in hortobagy, we brought perishable food for the kids. At 12:30, with the temperature at 35° C, we stopped by to ask if we could store it while we went to the park. Nobody was there. We called the number, and the man who answered said check-in was at 2 pm and asked us to come back then. We returned at 2:30 pm, but there was still nobody at the property. Our tour finished at 4:30 pm, by which time the food had spoiled, so we decided to drive on to a town with restaurants. We texted the man, who hadn’t been at the hotel all day, and offered to pay the standard rate by credit card. He refused and said that unless we paid the rate for four people, 50 euro more, including breakfast, he’d call the 'tourist police ' and stop us from leaving Hungary. I’d advise booking somewhere else.

We had a fantastic stay and will be back soon. The guest house is clean, modern and very comfortable, with rooms that feel exceptionally well appointed. Each one has a small kitchen, fridge, TV and air conditioning that’s quiet and works well. It’s centrally located, so you can walk everywhere. The host was wonderful, friendly, and made sure we were comfortable and well fed. He also helped us find and book local programs and events, and recommended restaurants.
