A woman called me after we booked the apartment on Booking, just 45 minutes before arriving. She bluntly said, “Hungary is closed tonight for anyone to sleep,” because of a new regulation. We’d already driven for 10 hours from another country, and I was exhausted, but they wouldn’t even listen. They treated us horribly. I believe that explanation was a lie: as far as I know, no new government rule had come out, and business travelers like me were allowed to book. Another hotel in the same city welcomed us, while these people frightened us by claiming nobody could take guests. Horrible experience. I’d never recommend this place or the people running it. Stay away.

The lady was nice, so I feel bad leaving an unfavorable review, but the place is all old, like something from the 1960s, and everything is plastic. At 25 euros, that might be fair. At 48 euros, it isn’t. I stayed at the perfect Hotel Yvy in Sebeş in Romania for 50 euros, breakfast included, and there’s no comparison. I wonder if foreigners are charged a high tax for services, like they used to do in our country under communism. Pizza and beer at the local pizzeria cost less than in Romania or the Czech Republic. Cheap for locals, expensive for foreigners. I used to enjoy going to Hungary, but I’ll probably stop.
