The owners were really kind, though communication was awkward: they don't speak English, and their messages and emails are translated into Polish, which sometimes led to bizarre misunderstandings. Our “apartment” was basically a room with its own shower and toilet. The shower leaked badly enough to flood the hallway, so a mop and bucket were part of the deal. The bedding smelled fresh and the dust had been wiped away. There was one kitchen on each floor, and ours was well equipped, with a terrace where you could eat. The decor looked straight out of the 1990s. Renovators were arriving as we left, so maybe things have changed since then.

We paid 25,000 HUF, about 80 EUR, for five people without breakfast. A week earlier, in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee next to Minimundus, we paid 115 EUR for five people and got buffet breakfast, cleanliness, European standards, and staff on site. Here, the place was old, dirty, broken, and overpriced. There was no Wi-Fi, the TV looked ancient and didn't work, the shower was dirty and leaked into the anteroom, and the pull-out couch was a problem. The bed was unusable too, with iron springs sticking out. Horrible!!!

It's a beautiful place, I can say that. But calling this shack an apartment is a minus. No more needs saying.

After a full day of hiking, it's just right for a night's sleep.
