Silver Garden Siófok

The staff were friendly, and when we reported the broken hairdryer, reception quickly brought a replacement. It was small, sticky, and dirty, though, and the effort didn’t make up for the rest of our stay at Silver Garden Siófok. We booked a deluxe room, but it looked worse than the cheapest economy rooms we’ve stayed in elsewhere. It was dirty, the bed was hard and uncomfortable, and there were insects on the walls. The bathroom ceiling was swollen, and the dresser was damaged: only the top drawer opened, while the others were stuck or broken. At first there was no air conditioner remote. Once we got one, the AC ran for a few minutes and then stopped working altogether. Unfortunately, we can’t recommend this place.

For £30, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but compared with other places at the same price, this fell short. The room itself was clean, and the shower and general cleanliness were fine, but it smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. There were no towels or drinking water, and no tea or coffee, which would have made the night more comfortable. We were told the town was a short walk away, but it actually took 35 minutes at a brisk pace, an unpleasant walk in the warm weather. Check-in was at one location, then we found out our room was somewhere else. The town centre is a 10-minute drive, and in the off-season there wasn’t much open, with most shops closing at 9pm. I’d hoped to swim, but the pool was filthy. The lakefront is also hard to reach because the hotels along the front block access to it. The manager didn’t seem to have the skills needed to run a hotel well.

The garden has a cosy feel, and there’s even a small swimming pool. The walls are very thin, so you can hear everything, though that seems common around the Balaton region. The beds squeak a lot and need improvement, and the mattress should be more comfortable. Most bothersome was the sewage smell coming from the shower cabin.

I’m grateful to the wonderful woman working here who helped my family in the middle of the night. We were stuck in traffic and couldn’t find a pet-friendly hotel quickly enough, so we came here. She let us in without any trouble. Thank you! 💗🥰
