Hotel Wollner

The menu was delicious, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It's a fantastic historic hotel, with fin-de-siecle furniture and design. It feels like a castle hotel, even though it isn't described that way.

Breakfast was generous, with traditional Hungarian dishes and healthy choices that even picky vegetarians should find something among. The big coffee cups and warm bread and pastries made for a lovely start before exploring old Sopron. Our hosts were warm and accommodating, and we hope to return soon. The hotel is in a perfect old-town location, in a beautifully renovated historic building. Original artwork lines the hallways and rooms, and there’s a cellar restaurant, spa, conference rooms, an inner courtyard, and a back garden where lavender was still blooming in November.

Our room was huge and elegant, with plenty of storage, good heating, and a great desk if you need to work. It felt like staying in a palace. The bathroom products are eco-friendly, and the hotel is quiet at night despite being right in the middle of the old town. The staff are lovely and make you feel at home. You can tell it's a special, family-run place.

The family-run hotel has plenty of character, from its heritage mansion's nooks and corners to the old gentleman who welcomed us with a tune from a Raj Kapoor movie. Staying here felt like getting a sense of the medieval town's heritage as well as seeing the sights outside. We stayed in a double room on the first floor, overlooking the courtyard. It was very spacious, with a comfortable bed, a walk-in shower, and basic local toiletries. There was no air conditioning, so keep that in mind in warm weather. The hotel has no gym or pool, just a chance to relax in a heritage setting. The staff were friendly and looked after our needs with a smile. Special shout-out to NIKKI, who made us feel welcome, and her father, who checked us in. The location in the old quarter is fantastic, just steps from the main sights. There’s a Weinstube, a rustic restaurant, and a small bar by reception with wooden fittings. Wi-Fi was impressively fast throughout the property. The small plasma TV had a limited selection of sports, news, music, and movies, with entertainment in several languages.
