Villa Katrina

The place was a disappointment, and we won't stay there again. There was no water in the pool, and Wi-Fi only worked at reception and in the dining room, not in our room. We could only pay in cash, there was no administration, and we obviously didn't get a bill. Breakfast was poor, with dry pastries and little choice. The milk was sour, so I couldn't even drink coffee. The room itself was unassuming and dirty, full of cobwebs and hadn't even been swept. There were more ants than sugar in the sugar bowl. 😅 The bed linen was dirty too, covered in black hairs. The surroundings would have been nice.

The location is nice, just a few minutes on foot from Tihany Abbey and the Echo restaurant. We were welcomed by a pleasant antique atmosphere, and there's a pool for cooling off in summer. Breakfast was basic but delicious, though beyond the usual cold cuts, vegetables, cereals, and bread, there wasn't anything else to choose from. You can only pay for the accommodation in cash, on site. We had a two-room attic suite with relatively large rooms, but the third sleeping spot was a pull-out sofa beside the double bed, and it wobbled so much it wasn't comfortable. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, but the tub was under the sloping roof, so taller guests can't fit beneath it or shower comfortably.

The receptionist, Timi, was the only good part. She arranged a place for us at the last minute after our booking was cancelled when we were almost at the hotel. We'd reserved a few weeks earlier, so they had time to cancel before we set off, and although the accommodation could have been rebooked, they still didn't wait for us. I think that was a rat thing. At reception we heard that many people were upset that day because there were problems with all the room reservations. Avoid this place from afar.

We went for the 8-person apartment, and the whole place felt run down. We saw for sale signs in several spots around the area, but they really could clean it up. The apartment was filthy: dirty floors, cobwebs in corners and windows, hairs everywhere, and unclean bed linen. We had to clean the refrigerator ourselves, which was especially disgusting. The beds were terribly uncomfortable, with springs digging into your back and legs that fold up. There were no curtains, and the Wi-Fi didn't reach the room. The apartment had no kitchen of its own. There was a shared kitchen anyone could use, but it was dirty and poorly equipped, with hardly any plates or glasses and no cutting board or kettle. The garden's vegetation and paving would be nice, but it was full of dog poop that nobody picked up. We spent days walking around a piece of it near our door. The pool wasn't working and had no water, and nobody even showed us where the sauna was. Parking was very difficult: you have to climb a steep road with a ditch at the edge, and a larger car can barely turn around at the top, especially when others are parked there. The fire pit is right in the middle of the already tiny parking lot. I can't comment on breakfast, since in those circumstances we didn't dare ask for it.
