Hotel Phonix

The one thing I really liked was the panoramic view from my window. The building itself feels like a relic from the communist years, inside and out, and badly needs renovation. It felt more like a dormitory than a hotel, barely two stars. The room was a little better than the rest, warm and with a new window and a freezer. But the cabinet was damaged and worn, with no hangers. There was no blanket cover for the bed, so I used my towel. The only chair in the double room was being used as a laptop table, leaving nowhere else to sit. The TV on the table was a huge old one from the 1990s, so I put my laptop on the chair. I don’t know when the room was last cleaned. There was dust on the bedside lamps, towel dryer, and radiator, plus visible balls of tangled cobwebs and dust under the bed. The hallway carpets were old and stained with bleach. The furniture looked like it was from the 1990s, the windows had paint spots, and the curtains were old. The plants were dying. The bathroom smelled strongly of bleach and had no extractor fan. I’d hoped for a tasty breakfast, but the buffet was a poor-quality continental spread of bread, jam, and hot dogs. There weren’t even any eggs, and I came right at opening time.

I slept really well here, and we’ve stayed twice. On our second stay, there were no towels in our room. The Wi-Fi worked well on every floor. Air conditioning may be available only in rooms whose number starts with 6, on the sixth floor.

The location was great, the staff were friendly, and the place had good vibes. My friends and I still had a good time in Tiszaujvaros, even though my stay was disappointing. The breakfast was poor, with warm yoghurt and coffee that didn’t satisfy. The beds seemed suited to smaller people, the Wi-Fi was weak, and there was no air conditioning during the hot European summer. I’ve stayed at many hotels, and Hotel Phoenix left me with a bitter impression.

The room was awful, with smelly beds and walls that looked like they were falling apart. The windows wouldn’t open because the sills had been painted over. There were huge mildew stains on the carpet, and the bathtub looked like a murder scene. I’m sure someone was killed there. Please help.
