Hotel Magister

The rooms are a decent size, and the wardrobe is okay, but the kitchen is half a kilometre away. You and your roommate get a mini fridge and a trash can from the 2000s that you have to open by hand, no foot pedal here. The laundry machine doesn’t work, or you can’t get coins for it. The WiFi is shit, even though it’s included in the 150€ rent, and the dorm is far from the city centre. The first and second floors are poorly lit and very dirty, even though they have the most people living there.

I’ve only visited, but it looks promising.

I lived here for two years and still visit friends here. It’s not bad if you’re travelling around Hungary, though the kitchens are dirty most of the time now. Hygiene was much better a few years ago.

There are desks and plenty of closet space, and the beds and surfaces seemed okay, but the floor clearly hadn’t been cleaned. The bathroom is outdated but works and is reasonably clean. It had a strange smell when we arrived, so maybe the ventilation isn’t working. There’s no air conditioning, which makes the room very hot during the day. We picked this place because it was meant to have a kitchenette, common rooms and laundry. The kitchenette has a mini fridge, sink and microwave, but no dishes at all, not even a plate. When I asked for some, I was treated as if it were a stupid question. The laundry coin machine is broken, and they offered no alternative. We had to look for the shared kitchen because there are no signs, only to find it decommissioned, apparently for painting. The room doesn’t smell of paint, so I think it’s been closed for a while. We’re meant to use the kitchen one floor down, but it’s very dirty and short on basic supplies and appliances. The lounge on our floor is closed too. The one below has only a few desk chairs, so that’s pointless as well.
