The Sankara Suites and Vilas

We were a couple staying three nights at Sankara Suites & Villas, including Nyepi. The hotel handled the silence day perfectly and made us feel comfortable. It was great value, and we’d definitely come back. The beautiful property was clean and well maintained, with everything we needed. We especially enjoyed the infinity pool, small gym, and delicious food. Staff were kind and always went the extra mile. Edy and Soma deserve special thanks for making the stay memorable. They also arranged transfers and scooters and helped with pretty much anything we needed, so everything was easy.

The secluded setting is lovely, with beautiful greenery all around. The rooms were huge and had a great view of the tropical plants, though the towels were very old and worn, more like rags than hotel towels. Everyone working there was nice and helpful, and breakfast upstairs was tasty with fantastic service. I wouldn’t count on a late checkout. We were there four days, but my request was refused, and reception called us to vacate the room just five minutes after 12 p.m. That didn’t feel professional.

The jungle setting is beautiful and the staff were very kind, but cleanliness and value need serious improvement. I was moved to a better room, yet the problems were still there. The rooms had a constant damp, musty smell, and the bedding, especially the feather pillows, smelled stale and felt uncomfortable. Towels were greyish and stained, with a strong bleach smell that felt unpleasant and below standard. The curtains were visibly dirty at the bottom, and the room didn’t seem properly maintained. Late checkout for just two hours was quoted at 400,000 IDR, which seemed unreasonable. Afterwards, I moved to another hotel in Ubud for almost half the price. It had a fresh scent on arrival, clean white towels, fresh-smelling bedding, and proper hygiene.

The quiet area gave my family and me a meaningful break, and the greenery was refreshing. We loved the infinity pool, and the rooms were spacious, well laid out, and had all the amenities we needed. After our long journey, we really appreciated the welcome bowl of fruit. Our stay at The Sankara Suites & Villas was short and sweet, though the family would have happily stayed longer.
