That plain chicken porridge at breakfast still comes to mind. It may be the best chicken porridge I’ve ever had, with no greasy feel and just enough seasoning that it doesn’t overpower your taste buds. I adore it 😔✊🏽. The room felt cozy, and the receptionist was really patient 💞. I liked having two charging sockets by the bed that fit different plug types. They also provide a pitcher and a drinking water dispenser just outside the room, which is a nice way to cut down on waste. There’s no fridge, though 🥹. The bathroom has an airplane theme that fascinated me at first, but after using it many times I found it less comfortable. The entrance can get a little flooded, which added to the feeling of being on a flight.

I loved being able to keep the room until 3pm for a little extra, since my flight wasn’t leaving until 7pm. There’s also access to the swimming pool and gym at nearby Novotel. The staff were lovely, especially Nura, Kadek and Jere, who were very kind and helpful. The bed was super comfy, and the room was clean and tidy, with decent Wi-Fi, warm water and very good air conditioning. Shops and restaurants are within walking distance, and the main beach isn’t too far. I had a really good stay. It’s a great option for a solo traveler and good value if you book online directly. When I fly to Balikpapan next time, I’ll be back.

I spent a long time at Ibis Balikpapan, and the team made it feel like home. Candra from F&B always welcomed me warmly and made each meal a nice experience. Iqbal and Anis at the Front Office were consistently friendly and helpful, going out of their way whenever I needed something. Their genuine care made the stay comfortable and memorable. Thanks for making me feel so welcome!

Breakfast was great, and my family enjoyed the choices. The room was also great and clean, and the staff were amazing and friendly. Aknova and Djandra stood out, along with a guy on the night shift at reception whose name I unfortunately didn’t catch. It was a pleasant stay, and I’d definitely come back on my next trip to balikpapan.
