The hotel is a little outside central Bandung, so the neighborhood is quieter, though the center is still around a 5-15 minute ride to Asia Africa street depending on traffic. There are family friendly touches like a children's playroom, and lots of spots around the property for memorable, Instagram worthy photos. Breakfast had a good variety. Parking on site is free, though the space is tight. The lobby smells pleasant and offers a welcome drink, but the single lift can be cumbersome. Check-in and check-out were quick and straightforward, and the rooms are great value. The bathroom was clean and well maintained, with hot water coming through after a few minutes.

The rooms had a reasonable amount of space and were fairly clean, but the executive rooms have no real windows. They have cabin-style lights that look like airplane windows, so you can't see outside. The sheets were stained, and the shower took more than five minutes of running water to get hot. Sound carries too, so people talking or walking in the corridor were easy to hear. My colleague even found a cockroach in his room. They asked him to wait for a cleaner to catch it before they offered him another room.

The staff were great overall, and they did eventually bring fresh towels after the ones in our room smelled really bad. Getting hot water meant waiting over five minutes, which felt much too long. The linen also seemed unclean for a hotel that was only about a year old. On our first stay, it wasn't cotton and felt very low quality and uncomfortable. The room itself was basically OK.

The hotel was clean, and the person I took to be the manager handled my feedback professionally. She seemed surprised by what had happened, and later that evening a different, helpful English-speaking staff member was at the desk. But by then, a lot had already gone wrong during our stay. The first room had a broken shower, a blocked drain, and a damaged toilet seat. They let me switch rooms, though the second one still had maintenance problems. My key card also stopped working at random, so I had to go back to reception to get it fixed. The breakfast situation was a mess. The first morning's offering was available, but it was just sad. Then, on our second night, we were told there probably wouldn't be a buffet the next morning because there weren't many guests, so we chose breakfast to be delivered to the room. We waited, nothing arrived, and only after calling reception did we learn the buffet was open after all. Nobody had told us. The WiFi kept showing as full on my Android device, then dropping out. I had to set a manual IP and use my travel router for a stable connection. There was no AP isolation, and most, maybe all, of the TVs appeared to be TCL Android TVs. That setup seemed to have security gaps, with the possibility of someone streaming adult content onto a neighbor's TV remotely. It summed up the lack of attention to detail. Even check-in felt odd. The man handling my passport spent a long time looking through all my visa stamps, not just the ID page, as if he were playing immigration agent. When I asked if I could help him, he stopped. It came across like a power move and wasn't normal front desk behavior. The signs were confusing too. I nearly mistook the karaoke bar next door for the hotel lounge. I knew this was a budget stay, not a luxury resort, but I still expected a hotel that functioned properly. I've had better hospitality in private homestays beside chickens and street dogs. The brand and location had potential, but the systems and staff didn't seem in sync. I wouldn't recommend it unless testing your patience on vacation sounds fun, or you're an opportunistic pentester with no morals. 😉

The room at Avery de'Grandcity Hotel Bandung was cozy and very comfortable, and the receptionist was friendly and helpful. I also loved all the beautiful details along the way to the room. I enjoyed every part of my stay here. Avery de'Grandcity Hotel Bandung is a wonderful hotel in Bandung, and I hope I get to come back someday.
