Hotel Vio Pasteur

I was disappointed. The room was small but acceptable for the price, and the hot water worked. Breakfast was okay, though the food was only so-so and there were no eggs. I saw an egg stall downstairs and asked for one, but they couldn’t provide it. The room I booked as non-smoking smelled of smoke. The pillows were old and lumpy, and the room was dirty. I even found a young cockroach in the bathroom. Lighting was poor, making makeup difficult, and the shower switch beside the bed is a strange electrical setup. The soap smelled like rust or a dirty sewer, so they should replace it and clean the dispenser. They provide refillable glass water bottles instead of sealed ones, but the utensils were dirty and I couldn’t drink the water. There’s a dispenser outside, but it was empty when I tried to refill, so I bought water myself. The lift hand sanitizer didn’t work either. Security just watched us park. When we came back, the gate was closed and we had to open it ourselves. They only appeared to help after we’d checked out. The room was for two, but there was only one toothbrush, pair of sandals, and shower cap. A notice said we could ask for more, which is a hassle, and feels cheap for a room at this price. The shower only has a rain head, no handheld one, so the shower cap is useful. There’s no hair dryer, so bring your own if you need one. The TV either didn’t work, had no signal, or had a faulty remote, so I had to change channels manually. I didn’t check how many channels there were. There’s no kids’ zone or pool, and not much to do at the hotel. I booked online for under 400k per room with breakfast, but the quality felt more like a 200k-ish room. The sign outside said rooms start at 210k++, so maybe it’s cheaper on site. I definitely wouldn’t come back.

It’s easy to find because the location is so convenient. For a budget hotel, the facilities are decent. I couldn’t see a nice view when I opened the window, but that’s fine for the price. Sometimes you can hear footsteps, though.

The linen and towels were in good condition, and the hotel was fairly clean. Still, pest control needs more attention. I found three baby cockroaches in my room over the first two nights. It’s well placed for getting out of Bandung, though for downtown I’d probably choose somewhere nearer the city center. One positive was Rifki at the front office. After I said I hadn’t been given the non-smoking room I requested, he promptly moved me. That room was above a meeting room, and at times people were testing audio and maybe singing karaoke. I’ll try another of the Vio hotels. This one could work for business or personal trips if you’re on a fairly good budget.
