Atres Villa

Atres was a great base for exploring. The front desk can arrange a scooter, and then you can head out to see the scenery. There’s also a short walk to the local shops, friendly people, tasty warung, and a place to buy water and cigarettes (you filthy smoker, you!). I was traveling solo and loved how calm and tucked away it felt, far from coastal Bali’s bustle. The staff were kind, attentive, and always quick to help with a smile. Breakfast hit the spot, and the kitchen was delicious. If you want to experience Bali beyond the bule scene, Atres Villa is a lovely place to stay.

The rice-field views and peaceful setting were beautiful, and the room was huge and much cleaner than I expected. The pool was large and spotless, with towels provided for free. The restaurant has plenty of choices, and the chefs clearly care about making the food taste good. Thanks to all the staff, especially Ilo and Kadek, for making the stay memorable. We had some lovely conversations and learned about local life. We’d definitely come back.

We had a great time here among the rice fields. Our clean room looked out over a lovely garden, and the staff were friendly and really helpful. We also enjoyed a Balinese massage and took a cooking class that included a trip to the local market. Even without a scooter, since we aren’t mobile that way, we managed to visit a local waterfall and the village. We’d happily return and recommend the place.

The main drawback is getting here. The access road, barely wide enough for one car, was badly damaged by monsoon rains when I visited, with large stones and rubble exposed. It was almost impossible on a scooter. I’m an experienced rider, but wouldn’t try it after dark. A car with decent clearance might manage if driven very slowly, though I’d hope not to meet another car coming the other way. The views are nice from a first-floor room. These old-school style villas are well maintained, with very comfortable mattresses and crisp, fresh linen. The staff were friendly and gave us very good service.
