Greenland Hotel Batam

I spent three days and two nights here. The price is affordable, and the location is strategic, with several restaurants nearby. The air conditioner was leaking, though, and I had to put a towel down to avoid slipping. For hot water in the shower, let it run a little and turn the tap to the left.

The hotel is worth what you pay, and there are restaurants and a convenience store nearby, so getting a meal or snacks is easy. I hope the receptionist improves how she serves future guests. I asked the day-shift receptionist to call a taxi for my family to go to the Ferry Terminal at 6:30 the next morning. Our ferry was at 8:00, and I clearly gave her that time. At 5:30, the night-shift receptionist called to say the taxi had arrived. I panicked because I wasn’t ready, though luckily my things were packed and I only needed to get myself ready. We got in around 6:00. Before leaving, the driver checked where we were going. When I said the Ferry Terminal, he burst out laughing and said he’d been told we were going to the airport. He also said this wasn’t the first time the day-shift receptionist had made that kind of mistake.

We were moved three times during what was meant to be a one-night transit stay. The first room, on level 3, had a broken bed lamp with exposed glass right above our heads. The wardrobe door and table had broken laminate, peeled back into sharp, jagged edges. The toilet was so filthy it looked like it hadn’t been scrubbed in decades. A small, plain room would have been fine, but we didn’t expect it to be dirty. They moved us to another room on the same level, where the air conditioning didn’t cool the room after three hours, leaving it hot and stuffy. We were moved again to a windowless room on level 2, even though we had booked and paid for a deluxe room with a window and breakfast. We were too tired to care by then, and thank goodness it was only for one night. The hotel badly needs maintenance and upkeep. We won’t come back.

The receptionist was helpful, and the room was moderately clean. Our “deluxe” room wasn’t especially comfortable, but it was okay for a stopover night.
