Hotel 01 Batam

Spacious room at a great price. Cleanliness could be improved, but it’s still worth the money. Batam Centre Ferry Terminal is 8mins away.

My family came from Canada and stayed here for a few days. Really cool place to stay, definitely recommend it!

There were warning signs all over the place saying they weren’t responsible for electric shocks if you charged devices using their ports, or for valuables lost in the room. The rooms also use manual keys. I booked a junior suite, but it was really dirty. I didn’t dare sleep on the mattress because the sheets were so thin that dirt or bugs could get through. I slept on the blanket instead, worried insects might crawl on me in the wee hours. There were lots of stains and random short hairs on the bedsheet. I didn’t dare shower either, since the towel smelled weird, and they provided a bar of soap instead of body wash.

The kitchen and housekeeping staff were genuinely helpful and friendly, but the front desk service was poor. I asked to leave my city clothes in storage while I went to some islands, and they refused. They wouldn't call the manager or give me a number to reach him myself. I've left clothes at hotels around the world before, for a fee, without this being an issue. Because of how they handled it, I didn't return after the islands. That's lost business. The strong mold smell was the worst part of the stay. It hit as soon as I entered the lobby and gave me a headache before check-in was done. It carried into the elevator, hallways, and rooms, so I had to keep my window open day and night to avoid feeling sick. The location is fairly convenient, right on the main road after the ferry terminal. With light luggage, it's about a 10-minute walk. Traffic gets loud in the evenings, though that's common around town. The pool is usually empty, and the room was okay, if a bit old-looking. Breakfast was just low-quality nasi or mee goreng, nothing else, and not worth paying for. After 5 pm there are little food warungs in front, plus an old mall behind the hotel with a good food court. Don't stay here.
