You can see Gunung Abang and Agung when the sky is clear, and at night it’s peaceful, with only roosters and insects for company. The hotel sits away from busy, noisy streets, which made it a lovely quiet place to stay. Since it’s near farms, farm smells are normal, and the roosters may bother light sleepers. For me, otherwise, it was perfect.

The room looked nice, had a lovely view, and the bed was comfortable. For the price, under $25 a night, it was just okay, though. Noise and bugs get in easily because the room isn’t insulated, and roosters start crowing at 4am, so bring earplugs if you want to sleep. The bathroom is open at the top, which lets noise and smells carry into the bedroom, so your partner will hear and smell your toilet habits. The shower only stays hot for about five minutes, meaning a couple can’t shower one after the other. We were also told breakfast would be served from 8-10, so we planned our evening around that. Instead, staff brought it to our room at 7:15 and woke us up. Their English was limited, and the information they gave us was wrong. Breakfast was barely toasted bread with one egg and two of those gross little sausages. I’m surprised anyone eats them.

I spent eight days here. The rooms were very clean, the mountain and jungle views were amazing, and both the staff and owner were friendly. A great place to stay in budongul.

The bungalows were lovely and well looked after, with a beautiful garden and a breathtaking view across the valley. It was easy to find and get to, though the car parking area is small. Staff were warm and friendly, and arranging things with the owner on WhatsApp was simple. They didn’t have sweet breakfast options, but the owner and staff made us Nutella toast anyway, which we really appreciated. There are plugs on both sides of the bed. A few things to know: the neighbor burned lots of leaves every day during our three-night stay, so there was a lot of smoke. Roosters were noisy from 3am until 6 or 7am. We also found a lot of cicak poop in the room, likely because of the high wooden ceiling, and the TV didn’t work. Still, that’s a fair price for being so close to nature :)

The jungle setting is lovely, the rooms are nice, and breakfast is delivered to your balcony. Since it’s a bit remote, taxis can be hard to find, and the hotel doesn’t offer much food. Keep that in mind if you don’t have your own car.
