The service caused most of my frustration. Staff spoke limited English, my scooter was towed when I left it by the entrance briefly to carry my luggage, and reception called at 8AM to ask when I'd have breakfast. I knew the breakfast hours and expected a buffet, but no one had told me at check-in that I needed to pick a time. At the bar, I waited 20 minutes for the bill and eventually had to find somewhere to pay myself. The hotel has potential, but service needs significant improvement. The room itself was spacious, clean, well-equipped, quiet, and had a very comfortable bed. Breakfast tasted good, and the view from the window was really nice.

The public areas could use brighter lighting, but the swimming pool is a plus for families with kids. The location is strategic, close to the city center, and after coming back here five years later, I found the rooms still well maintained. Overall, a very recommended hotel in Batusangkar!

I wouldn't recommend it and won't return. During the peak season, including the Eid holiday, one of the two small lifts was out of service. Dinner took far too long; after ordering pizza, we were told 20 minutes later that it wasn't available. The fried kwetiau was salty and seemed to have been reheated many times, and the fried egg was cold and old. Breakfast was also disappointing: no western breakfast during the holiday, and bread and waffles don't count as western food. The noodle, rice, and other main dishes were cold, and the coffee was terrible, with sediment. There were other problems too: the hallway was rather dirty, the gym AC didn't work, and the men's gym bathroom was quite dark. The room was standard, though the staff were friendly and service was great.

I spent two nights here and had no WiFi at all. It wouldn't work with any of my Apple devices, which was a real shame. Apart from that, it's one of the best hotels in Tanah Datar, with a cozy, well-designed, clean room right in the city center.
