Efata Homestay

Even though I stayed just one night at Efata Homestay, it was the most memorable homestay I've ever had. The garden and property were immaculate and well cared for, and my room was extremely comfortable and had everything I needed. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with big smiles and felt at home. Ika was incredibly helpful. He took me on his scooter to a few places, including visits with his friends who make coconut sugar and batik. I learned how the traditional wax-resist dyeing works and made a pattern of my own to keep as a souvenir. After my sunrise Borobudur tour, Ika drove me to see some temples the next day, even though it was a short walk. He got up before 4am to take me to the sunrise tour. Yani was a wonderful host and made sure I had enough to eat. She welcomed me with a drink, then prepared Indonesian snacks and tea before my bus to Yogyakarta, even though I'd already had breakfast during my temple tour. I'm so thankful for the unforgettable experience. Thank you both!

The Javanese breakfasts were fantastic, and Ika and Yani made the stay feel special with how much they helped. Ika even took me by motorbike to the Chicken Church and Borobudur Temple, then brought me to the bus station on my last morning and helped book a ticket back to Malioboro when it wasn’t clear whether there’d be an early bus. I had a truly awesome stay at Efata Homestay. Don’t hesitate, just book.

I really liked relaxing in the cute garden after walking around, and Ika was happy to share explanations and recommendations. He also drove me to the Borobudur sunrise entrance because he didn’t want me walking there at night. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the homestay, as is the bus station. The room was simple, very clean, with a comfortable bed and quiet AC. I enjoyed the traditional breakfast, and Ika and Iani were lovely, smiley, and helpful. The place is on a side street, away from car noise. You can hear a mosque, as you do throughout the village and Java, where there are several.

You’re staying in the host family’s own home here, and they make you feel warmly welcome. Breakfast is authentic and served in their dining room, and the hospitality is wonderful. Efata Homestay is the real homestay experience. If you find a room available, consider yourself lucky.
