The Amrta Borobudur

The pool was decent and the rooms were nice, and there's a good laundry nearby. But Borobudur's entrance isn't close at all, it's a 25-minute walk. Staff barely spoke English, and the mosque woke me at 4 a.m., which was very annoying. The restaurant was closed during Ramadan. Breakfast was okay, but the portions were huge. The Indonesian food was good, while the Western options weren't great, and my egg was almost raw. It was nearly impossible to finish breakfast by yourself. I wouldn't recommend coming here as a Western tourist during Ramadan.

The traditional Joglo room had a nice atmosphere, with a view of Merapi and Borobudur nearby. We loved the pool, and the staff, especially the receptionist, were very welcoming. The breakfast area felt too small during meeting events, and as hotel guests we were a bit uncomfortable. Thanks, AMRTA.

The food was average, nothing memorable, though decent enough to fill you up. More attention to local spices and presentation could improve it. The pool area is pleasant, but different tiles, perhaps warm earthy tones or soft greys inspired by Borobudur stone, might make it look more elegant and connect it to the nearby landmark.
