The gardens were lush, our room was clean and roomy, and the meals were delicious. Satwa Elephant Ecolodge in Way Kambas National Park made a peaceful eco-retreat for our three-night stay, and the staff were kind and helpful. The tours were a different story. We paid quite a lot for several activities, but our guide spoke very little English. My husband doesn't speak Bahasa Indonesia, so I had to keep translating. As an Indonesian, I could do that, but it was tiring and got in the way of enjoying the wildlife and the explanations. For a lodge that welcomes foreign visitors and charges premium tour rates, having English-speaking guides as standard would make a big difference.
