We loved the villa’s privacy and lovely furnishings, and the pool overlooking the jungle was fabulous. It’s in a quiet location, with very friendly people in the village, and our host was responsive and helpful. Kadek, our driver, made a huge difference to the trip. He picked us up from the airport, then drove us every day. He was reliable, always on time, reasonably priced, spoke excellent English, and knew a lot about Bali and the area. When asked, he suggested things to do, and was happy to follow our plans. He arranged Jeeps for Mount Batur, snorkelling on the coast, ATV rides, white-water rafting, and a wonderful session with Rani at the Pemulan Bali Farm Cooking Class. Rani had a great sense of humour, and I’d highly recommend the class too. On Christmas Day, Kadek’s wife, who had restaurant experience, kindly came to the villa and carved the whole suckling pig, Babi Guleng, that we’d ordered through Kadek. We booked for a Christmas holiday with our son and his girlfriend, and had a great experience. I’d absolutely recommend the villa and Kadek as a local driver and guide.

We had a lovely stay in this pretty, spacious villa, though it’s some distance outside Ubud. The drive takes about 30 minutes and is beautiful, with rice fields along the way. Getting Grab rides was easy, but having to call one whenever we wanted to go out was a bit annoying since there’s nothing nearby. Inside, there was a cozy TV area, and we could log into our Netflix account. The kitchen had everything we needed, including a toaster, cooler, freezer, and blender. Ordering food through Grab was easy, though delivery took around 90 minutes. The pool was great, and the view was okay, mostly trees. The owner offered a driver from the airport and suggested a couple of tourist stops on the way, but we declined because it was cheaper to go directly. We paid 600 rp to get to the villa from the airport. The owner told us on arrival that the washing machine was broken, and offered laundry service for an extra charge. We had specifically wanted a villa with a washing machine, so that was annoying. There were some other issues: we found a dead frog behind a sofa cushion, and lots of ants on the couch and floor. The pool umbrellas couldn’t be moved or closed when we wanted to sunbathe. The sun loungers were very heavy and dirty, so we couldn’t move them either. Construction right next door hadn’t been mentioned, and it woke us each morning and made noise for much of the day while we were trying to sunbathe. The internet went out our last night and was fixed the next morning. Even with those problems, we had a lovely time.

We got to know Bresela on foot, met some lovely locals, and tried rejuvenating activities nearby. The staff’s thoughtful advice helped us make the most of it. We also spent our days swimming in the magnificent pool, enjoying massages at the villa, and cooking our own meals. We had such a wonderful November stay, and I highly recommend it.
