Junia Guesthouse Bukit Lawang

We loved our few days at Junia Guesthouse. They looked after us like family, and the food was great, especially the banana pancakes we had every day. They also arranged our airport taxi in both directions, which went smoothly. Our jungle trek was a big part of the stay. Andre and Jonny knew the jungle well and treated it and the animals with respect. They weren’t making noise or trying to draw the orangutans’ attention for photos, unlike some other tours. That kind of disturbance can make orangutans less willing to be around people over time. I’d happily recommend staying here.

Junia Guesthouse made a lovely first stop in Bukit Lawang before our orangutan trek. It’s surrounded by greenery, and when we visited in February the flowers were blooming everywhere. The evenings had a little drizzle, while days were hot and humid, but it was still a peaceful place to rest and recharge for a few days before hiking. Nature lovers and jungle explorers should give it a try. Don’t miss nearby Corin Coffee for a relaxing break and a taste of the local atmosphere.

The meals were tasty and generous, both at Junia and at the jungle camp. In the evenings there were usually people around playing guitar, and anyone could join in, so our nights often ran late. We had a great time here, and will definitely return to Junia if we come back to Bukit Lawang. The staff were all friendly and helpful. They arranged our two-day jungle trek and sightseeing tour, and our guides were great. They pointed things out while also teaching us lots about Bukit Lawang and the surrounding area. We had a lot of fun together.

Pancha, Deka, and Mr. Don were a fantastic crew for my 3D2N jungle tour. They knew the route well and proactively warned us about tricky steps and where to watch our footing. When my phone had trouble starting, they went out of their way to help me troubleshoot it. The campsites were comfortable, and the food was great. The homestay is central and easy to get around from, with comfortable rooms. The staff were incredible and made sure I was taken care of from before I arrived until they dropped me at the airport. They helped coordinate transport and readily shared advice. I’d absolutely recommend it for a trip here.
