Fort De Kock is right across from the hotel, and I recommend a visit. It’s cool, has lovely city views, is well kept, and has photo spots. Kids will enjoy the zoo. Cross the bridge and you can see elephants, birds, zebras, a tiger, an orangutan, and reptiles. For two adults and two children, entry was 90k on Monday, well worth it. There’s also the family benteng restaurant at the front, known for ayam pop. The fort parking lot fits up to 10 cars. We stayed in room 312 from 15-17 April 2023. It was a good size for our family of four, including two kids under 12, and it was quiet, bright, clean, and comfortable. There wasn’t a view from the window, but we were out all day anyway. The bathroom was clean, though the sink needs attention, and the carpet could use more vacuuming. There was no fridge, but the AC and hot water worked perfectly. Food was okay, and everyone from security to the front desk was friendly and helpful. Bring 200k for the room deposit. Parking seemed to fit 15-20 cars. The location is great, about a 500-meter walk to Jam Gadang with lots of food and drink places nearby. I’d happily stay here again. Keep up the good work!

Our room was dirty, with lots of girls’ hair around, and the bed seemed damp. The internet didn’t work at all, even after we called and asked many times. We booked one night and had trouble from check-in: I’d requested one large bed and an extra bed because we were traveling with kids, but the receptionist gave us two small beds and no extra bed. After some arguing, we got another room, but then waited a long time for the extra bed. I travel a lot, and this was a really bad hotel experience. I wouldn’t recommend it to travelers who expect things to be right. If you don’t care where you sleep, maybe it’s okay. Management needs to take this seriously.

The breakfast was good, with plenty of local options like rendang, soto, noodles, fried rice, and baked goods. This is a local hotel on a hill in Bukit Tinggi, Padang, and mountain-view rooms cost extra. I spent one night in a medium-sized deluxe room for IDR 750k, or $52. It was clean and had a standard bed. The bathroom had only a shower, with enough toiletries provided.

The smoking room by the lobby has no exhaust fan, so smoke spreads through the whole room. People even smoke under the detector. Does it not work? What about safety?
