The Kampung

The photos don’t do this place justice. The drive may give you pause, but it’s worth it, and the hosts take care of you in every way. The area is excellent for diving, so it’s a great place to stay and relax after a dive trip. We didn’t try the food at the Kampung until our third day, which I regret. It’s freshly made and much better than any of the Warungs we tried. I’d suggest eating there on day one, since you might not want to go elsewhere afterward.

We came with the family to The Kampung in Amed and every one of us loved it. The villas have character and a thoughtful design, mixing traditional style with the comforts you need to feel at home. The setting right beside the ocean is beautiful, peaceful, and so relaxing. The staff were attentive and kind, and made us feel genuinely welcome throughout our stay. A lovely place to slow down, spend quality time together, and enjoy Amed’s natural beauty. We’d happily stay again.

Our two-day stay was perfect, especially the outdoor spaces, which I loved. The swimming pool is huge and the terrace is beautiful. The Kampung China villa is made entirely of wood in a traditional Javanese style, giving it a historic, atmospheric charm. The interior is quite dark, which won’t appeal to everyone. I might find it too dark for a longer stay, but that’s just my personal preference. The villa, pool, and terrace are truly stunning.

My room had bed bugs, and the bites caused a lot of pain during the stay. I also had a lot of cleaning to do once I got home. That made it hard to give this place more stars. Otherwise, it’s a cool little spot right on a rocky beach, with good service and good food. The sea view is partly blocked by a boat that looks like it’s been sitting there for a long time and has fallen into disrepair. Locals regularly walk along the beach selling trinkets. The villa is very quiet unless, like us, you have noisy neighbours. Light sleepers may also hear roosters and the street at times.
