The Alley City Hotel

The room got a fair amount of street noise, but it didn’t bother us. Everything was very clean and beautiful, and breakfast was included and delicious. Great for a night or two. I’d definitely stay again before or after a flight out of DPS.

It was easy to feel safe and rest well here. The other guests were respectful, the staff professional, and the place is like a mini hotel. Hot water, AC and good Wi-Fi were all there. The common area was useful for getting work done, having the free Nasi Kuning breakfast, and refilling my bottle at the hot and cold water dispenser, which was a big plus. The bed was comfortable, and the room had hangers and closet space. I liked that the bathroom separated the toilet from the shower. I just wish the room had more ventilation and felt less claustrophobic. The entrance can be tricky to spot since it’s set behind the front. There’s a KFC nearby, plus some eateries along the side that aren’t well advertised. Keep walking a bit past KFC and you’ll find them. At the traffic junction there’s a zebra crossing to Dublin Donuts and the side leading to Sanur Harbor. It’s a nice quiet place to spend a night before heading to the harbor.

The service was good, they provided breakfast, and it was nice being within walking distance of the harbor. We stayed at the Alley City Hotel for one night before going to Nusa Penida, but the room was a letdown despite the good reviews. The Wi-Fi barely worked, the AC hardly cooled, the bed was very uncomfortable, and there was gum stuck on the wall near my head. I wouldn’t stay here again.

It’s good value for money, with a short walk to the swimming beach and local restaurants. Sanur isn’t for you if you like active nightlife. I arrived at 10 pm, and reception could have helped carry my two packs upstairs but chose not to. Nobody at the desk spoke English when I arrived, though the next day the staff were much more helpful. There was no window in my room, so it was somewhere to sleep and rest, and I had to be out during the day.
