Ekas Surf Resort

That beach fish BBQ with Dave, followed by heading back out kitesurfing, was wild. I also loved the kitespot: at low tide the water was less choppy, and farther over on the East Side of the break it was flat with an amazing period. A thousand stars for the spot. We stayed about a week and the place was better than we expected from the moment we arrived. Melisa and Dave have built a welcoming place with surf and kitesurf schools, comfortable facilities, great management and staff, and genuinely thoughtful guest service. They can help arrange transfers before you arrive, and you can rent a motorbike to explore the Ekas peninsula at your own pace. The BBQ was such a good way to meet people. Thanks, Dave, and don’t skip the sauces! Breakfast was delicious, with a varied menu, and there are other places and warungs close by too. There’s plenty of beer, gasoline is always available if you want a cold one, and the swimming pool is perfect. Even if you’re not staying there, you’re welcome to eat at the restaurant. We had a great time between surf sessions, eating and meeting people at the skate park or by the pool table. We also had two surf sessions in one day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, then relaxed by the pool. The food is fantastic, the staff are lovely, and the characters around the place are legends. Big thanks to everyone, including the international team of surf and kitesurf instructors, who add so much to the experience. We hope to come back and join the surf camp and try the other activities too. Cheers! 🍻

We usually stay in Kuta and had visited Ekas a couple of times, but this visit introduced us to Dave and the resort. We’re coming back. We spent the day doing two surf sessions, morning and afternoon, then unwound by the pool. The surf spot is only five minutes away from inside Ekas, and the resort is a great place to hang out between sessions, even if you’re not staying at the hotel. The food is amazing, the staff are great, and the people drifting around are absolute legends. There’s plenty to do besides surfing, and I can’t wait to have time to join the surf camp next time.

The setting feels pleasantly remote, even though it’s only an hour from the airport, and it was a relaxing change from the island’s busier tourist spots. The guests it draws were friendly, as were the villagers. Several nearby breaks suit different abilities, so there was always somewhere working whatever the conditions. We had an unbelievable week. Dave and Melissa were warm, accommodating hosts, and the staff were fantastic. The rooms and food were top notch. I’ll definitely try to make it back.

The rooms and food were good quality, though the stay felt a bit pricey. It’s about a seven minute walk to the beach, down a very steep hill, so carrying a board takes some effort. There weren’t any perfect waves during my visit. I also didn’t feel the surf instructor was very keen to give me a refresher, since I hadn’t surfed since early 2020, or explain the local setup.
