We surfed with this company for three days. The staff were friendly and the location was handy, so we kept returning. On the last day, my friend and I wanted to share a boat with other people to split the cost. The person renting it to us got angry, yelled aggressively, and threatened us, saying to “watch our backs surfing” and that we'd never be welcome to surf at Gerupuk again. It was way out of line when all we wanted was to share a boat. It seemed we'd gotten in the way of their aim to make as much money as possible from tourists. We rented boards and boats elsewhere and had a good day in the end. I wouldn't recommend this place or go back.

For the price, this is pretty good. There’s a nice private room with a small bathroom attached, though the plumbing is a bit dodgy and there's no hot water. The AC was there, but even when I changed the setting on the unit, the temperature stayed freezing. It's a convenient surfer spot, with people coming and going all day. A mosque across the road broadcasts prayers through the day, starting as early as 5am, which is a rough wake-up. It's about a 15-minute scooter ride from Kuta.

The sunset terrace and air-conditioned room made for a comfortable stay, and the food was good for a fair price. Susu gave us wonderful service during our six days, and the staff were lovely. The bathroom feels dated and could use some work, though the cold shower didn't bother us. Gerupuk is an old fishing harbor that now caters to surfers because of its location. People often offer you things, sometimes at high prices, so keep your cool when bargaining in this small village. The surf spots are reached by boat, 200k per person including your chosen board. There's also a beautiful beach 3 km away for families to relax, swim, or surf. A boat drop-off near the waves costs 25k. It's nice being away from the main tourist areas, even if that means spending a little more. You can hear the call to prayer from everywhere. Bring sunscreen, since it's overpriced there.

The beds were so comfortable and good quality, and we loved the air-conditioned rooms, views, and food. Everyone was warm and helpful, and they were honest when arranging surf sessions at the best price. One of the best homestays I've had in ages. I'd definitely come back.
