PinkCoco Gili Air - Constant Surprises & for Cool Adults Only

Getting a decent night's sleep may be hard here. The waterfall-style shower in every room is so loud it seems audible all the way from Lombok. There's also a curious wardrobe detail: one synthetic pajama set for two guests, apparently to share, with one taking the pants and the other the shirt. The beach is awful, with no proper water access, so swimming or snorkeling means walking to the other side of the island. The basic warung serves greasy food, and staff aggressively call passersby in, making it feel more like a roadside café than a hotel restaurant. WhatsApp replies usually take 30 to 60 minutes, and renovation work brings drilling and construction noise into your holiday. The drinking water is another problem. They provide refillable bottles with rubber stoppers covered in green mold, saying they avoid plastic. I don't see why they couldn't offer branded water in glass bottles. This hotel isn't worth the money. Rating: 1.5/10.

All the little details around the hotel added up, including some you might not notice straight away, and made the stay feel special. The staff were friendly and attentive. One of the best hotel stays I've had. If you're going to Gili Air, this place is well worth considering.

We were there for four days and I had the vegan bowl at least six times. It's great that they have such good vegan choices. The vegan breakfast was just okay, though the scrambled tofu was nice and not as good as the bowl. Coffee was usually up to standard, but twice the espresso wasn't. I sent one back and it was better the second time. The rest of the stay was almost perfect, and despite that uneven breakfast quality I'd give it five stars. The little cottages have their own balconies and fans, and waking up by the ocean then biking around the island felt special. Pink Coco also has a fun pink vibe and a perfect location. I'd definitely stay again if I get the chance to return to Gili Air.

The shower could be improved. Its pressure fluctuated and the water flow was strong, making it uncomfortable at times and loud enough to hear from the next room. We also missed having an outdoor rack for towels. Staff changed the bath towels daily, but it would be more sustainable if guests could dry and reuse them. We stayed five nights at PinkCoco. The bed was comfortable, the room had everything we needed, and housekeeping was excellent overall, including evening turndown, though they forgot us once and we were a bit disappointed. We'd give the restaurant and staff four out of five: a few details could be better compared with restaurants in Bali, but for a small island it was still a very good experience. We were very satisfied with our choice and would recommend it.
