Amigos Bungalows

We had a comfortable stay at Amigos Bungalow. The rooms were clean and in very good shape, and the caretakers were friendly and ready to help with whatever we needed. They sorted out both private and public snorkeling trips for us and helped us rent bicycles. There’s a well-kept pool on site, and the location made getting around easy: the lake is just a few meters away and the harbour is close by. The one small downside was the salty utility water for showering and the lack of fresh water for that. Everything else was spot on. A good choice for a relaxed, comfortable stay!

The pool was very clean, and there were hammocks for lounging in the lovely, laid-back atmosphere. The nearby mosque could get pretty loud, which was the one downside. Staff were so friendly and helpful with anything we needed. Our towels were dry and fresh, the sheets were clean and stain-free, and having 18L of drinking water provided was really convenient. After showering with the sea salt water, we were also given fresh water, which was thoughtful. The food was delicious, especially the nasi goreng and banana pancake. It was a relaxing stay with great hospitality, and I’d recommend it for a peaceful getaway.

The manager is friendly, but charges for services felt like a scam. Don’t rent their things, use the laundry, or have them arrange transport, since you’ll pay a third of what you could elsewhere. The air-conditioned rooms are okay, but I’d avoid the little huts. They’re cramped and uncomfortable, with lots of bugs and noise, a very small bed, a fan caked in grime, and a disgusting bathroom sink. I knew these were cheap accommodations in SEA and kept my expectations low, but we were still disappointed.

We meant to stay three nights, then had such a nice time we added another three. The staff were kind and courteous, and made us feel welcome and comfortable. Our room was big, with its own little terrace and a ceiling fan. The pool is right in front of most rooms, and breakfast is cooked by staff each morning and tastes good. A bike costs 50.000 IDR per day to rent, which we did and found useful for getting around the island, though you can manage without one since what you need is nearby. We had some Wi-Fi trouble in the room, but staff did their best to help. If I come back to Gili Meno, I’d stay here again :)
