La Favela - Hostel

Diego, the manager, made me feel at home as soon as I arrived, and he was there during my stay to answer questions and help whenever I needed him. The staff are wonderful, really friendly people. This is the best hostel I've ever stayed in. I love it so much that after leaving Gili T, I had to come back. It's got everything you need: a pool, a cool place to relax, a bar, a hammock in front of every room, clean rooms, comfortable beds, bikes to rent, and good breakfast. This is my home now. YOU NEED TO STAY HERE.

It's set inside the village, so you can enjoy some peace and use the pool during the day, then have a drink and great BBQ in the evening. The atmosphere is amazing, and the staff and owners are incredible. There's always someone around to help and offer good advice. I definitely recommend this place. Don't hesitate, book now!

The open-roof shower in room 1 had flowers dropping in from above, which was a fun touch. There’s no hot water, but I found I didn’t really need it. At first the walk to the beach seemed far, though renting a bike makes getting around the island easy. I had a private room with aircon, and both the staff and other guests were friendly. I liked staying in the village more than at the fancy coastal resorts. I’d rather have human connections than a pretty, Instagram-ready bamboo room by the beach. The “dirty roads” mentioned in Ekram Jeiz’s French comment were part of what I liked: it felt like a real village, not a tourist attraction. A bit of dirt is no big deal to me. If you can’t get past it or don’t enjoy it, the resorts may suit you better. The hostel is called “La favela,” after all.

It’s a bit of a walk to the main road and strip. The private room was good, with aircon and a decent bathroom, though there was no hot water. The host was cheerful and joked around, and can arrange all sorts of trips right from the hostel.
