Hotel 88 Mangga Besar VIII by WH

Breakfast was a real highlight. There was plenty of lovely hot local food, plus a western section, and even as a vegan I found enough to eat. The staff were consistently friendly, sorted problems quickly, helped me book a Drag, and remembered me. I was the only white person on the street, let alone at the hotel, but I felt at home. On my second visit I had booked the cheaper room, then after a slightly unusual conversation using Google Translate they let me have the room I thought I’d booked without charging extra. That was decent of them, and I still remember the staff by name. The location on the northern side of Mangga Besar is handy for the coast and Kota, and makes a good starting point in different directions. The rooms are clean, roomy, and were fine for my two stays of four or five days. A few outlets by the bed would help, as would tea and coffee. Be aware the cheapest room has no windows, which might be fine for a night or two. The ad didn’t make that clear and the photos suggested otherwise. A good mid-range place, simple and well serviced. You get what’s advertised, and I’d definitely recommend it.
