The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast had a nice range of local and international choices. The pool and gym were decent and enjoyable, even if neither felt especially modern. The spacious rooms were fairly comfortable, clean, and functional. Some parts could use an update, but I had no major complaints, and the bed was comfortable enough for a good night's sleep. The location in South Jakarta is a real plus for getting around. Hotel Kartika Chandra has an old-school, slightly nostalgic and elegant feel. It may not be the trendiest place, but it's a comfortable, convenient option if you care more about space and location than luxury.

The pool hours were limited to 8am-3PM. On our second day, staff did clean the room since we were staying more than one day. But there was no security or staff at the front entrance, the lobby felt dark and creepy, and it had just one person at the front desk. The lobby also had no AC.

The lobby needs better lighting. It feels dark and has that musty old-house smell. The building is old, but it's holding up well, and the room was clean and spacious with a cozy bathroom. Breakfast had a pretty good selection.

I came to Jakarta for a friend's wedding and a vacation, and I have to warn people about this place. In the first room there were roaches everywhere. The second room had a rat's nest under the mini fridge. In the third and final room, my wife got in the shower while I lay down and turned off the light. I started warming up the bed, then looked up and saw hundreds of bedbugs coming from the headrest toward me.
