Konko Hostel

It’s close to the gambir station, but you can get a grab from anywhere, so the location wasn’t worth it to me. People were extremely loud in the chill out area at 3-4 am. With the AC off, the room got stinky and hot, but with it on, it was freezing. The bathrooms were filthy, and the four-bed dorm was the tiniest I’ve ever seen, barely room for two people to stand. My locker was dirty inside, and climbing to the top bunk was hard. The disgusting curtain in front of it smelled moldy. One of the worst hostels I’ve stayed at. I wouldn’t go back, ever.

The room or booth was adequate, and the bathrooms were clean. Kenya really made the stay better than the place itself: she was so nice, took us to a good place to eat, and was a joy to spend time and talk with. If you have time, definitely book a city tour with her.

I had a great time here for about four days, and the facility was clean and well placed. It’s hard to find when you arrive because you have to walk through the bbq restaurant downstairs, but once you get up the stairs, it’s great. Join the hostel WhatsApp right after check-in. Kenya Ernie and the others organize tours and socializing, and they make it a lot of fun. The tours are affordable and really enjoyable, so I highly recommend them. There’s a ton to see nearby, but without a guide you’re flying blind. Thanks again, everyone, I had a great time.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the hostel is a great base for seeing the city. It’s very central in Jakarta, near the National Monument and Istiqlal Mosque, and fairly clean. They organize some activities too. I did miss the easy hangout vibe I’ve found at many other hostels, though maybe I just got unlucky with the travelers staying there during my visit.
